Well this is something I never would have expected: Foursquare has decided to open source their entire location dataset (over 100 million places) for anybody to use! And they’re committing to updating it monthly!

Foursquare still exist? When they open source their data, what is then their value proposition?
they recently announced the end of City Guide but a refocusing on Swarm so it may be that they have new value planned there, but who knows
yep, they still exist. as far as i know, their whole deal since they stopped focusing much on Swarm and City Guide has been selling their location dataset. which means i have no idea what the answer to your question is lol
