it’s honestly so wild to me that people will stay on X or Threads instead of trying out Bluesky or Mastodon because they get more “engagement” on Threads. social media algorithms have poisoned our brains into thinking we have freedom of reach and that our dumb shitposts should be shown to EVERYONE

Wouldnt people join bluesky for engagement too? Sure there isnt an algorithm, but people want to feel validated/seen. With more and more people joining by the day, peoples random thoughts will be seen by quite a few people on bluesky.
i think it's natural to want to feel validated and seen, but i don't think that the level of engagement that people have come to expect from algorithms serving their content is healthy. twitter poisoned my brain too and i became really fixated on followers, likes, etc.
People don’t even shit post anymore. Everything is “content” and needs strategy. Like, please.
these days i feel more content to have a community of friends and acquaintances that i actually try to interact with instead of hoping something i post will go viral and get a bunch of likes that mean nothing by the next day

@davidcelis I think some people are still tying too much of their self worth to it, both monetary and just clout. it’s still working for a small group and they just are fine with that. blame capitalism.
